Good old Ikea... they're about four years old now, though.

Ahhh. That kind of fairy lights. Every Christmas ours drive us mad too. That said, I just dug up a set of yellow moon lights which are made of some kind of translucent rubber and don't overheat or tangle or anything, and now they're hanging in my room!

Heh, yeah, no matter how carefully you repack or untangle them, they will tangle again within five minutes. It's like an Eddie Izzard sketch; reminiscent of the fruit-bowl-ripening one...

I have a set of star-shaped fairy lights (also designed like these to hang from the ceiling - Ikea give you plenty of cable!) across the hallway curtain, though I had them in the window our first Christmas, before I'd put voile on the curtain poles. ;)

This year I'm looking forward to taking arty Christmas tree shots with the new camera...

The best thing I've found is to lay them out on the floor in a zigzag and crunch lengths of kitchen foil around them, securing with tape if necessary (it may rip in places when you put it in the box). Sometimes wrapping a set of lights around a cardboard tube works too, though you'd need a poster tube for the bigger light sets...

Most of our more expensive sets still have the original boxes with the special plastic / cardboard holders, so they're not a problem, and the majority of the others I tend to get for £1.99 and they only last a year anyway. ;) Even when I've unravelled them, they tangle when my back is turned...

PS: I also have a set of purple fluffy fairy lights hanging over the bed, which are excellent for ambient lighting. :)
