"what became of class?"
so. chicago, once more. i thought seeing the live show would merely fuel my ever-growing rant on the subject of the movie, but having now seen it, i can see why the movie was directed the way it was, and i'm less irritated about it on a matter of principle. it still annoys me, though, from the perspective of a movie-musical geek, but more on that at a later time...
the cast was good, though nobody immediately grabbed me as being something special. the one playing mama would have been in the listing, though, if she had more to do... i was most confused by the fact that roxie was a brunette and velma the blonde (i'm tainted!) and marti pellow as billy flynn was... well, what it says on the tin. nothing to write home about. i spent most of it being rather terrified by the fact that the velma-lady was the spit of faith brown, but that might just be the blonde hair. it resulted in having to sit VERY firmly on the sunsetMuses, obviously...
also, i must stop Desperately Seeking Jeremy in every single thing i see. it's not healthy. :)
can't think of anything else to say, really. staging was just very chicago-ish (the band were onstage and they boogied, which was rather sweet; the conductor was playing his baton like a trumpet at one point... :D) and there is nothing quite like the 'cell block tango' to make you hate the male race. it's a fantastic song. :)
oh! mary sunshine was a drag queen, which i sort of already knew from someone seeing the london show. but they confused us utterly: 'she' was a counter-tenor in the scariest possible way (remember when mr. yeo got that top G? think that, but scarier...) and was in the programme as 'dee' somebody, listed throughout as 'she', 'her', etc. but mary sunshine was most definitely a bloke; billy flynn reveals this fact in the trial, and it was definitely a bloke that appeared at the stage door. so that was amusing.
stage door lurk was probably the least successful yet. it was cold, for a start, so i couldn't be bothered to chase the majority of the cast down the street for that reason. there was a gaggle of us waiting for marti to appear (i'm not a 'wet wet wet' fan [although i was by the time i bloody left...], but, y'know, he's at least semi-famous..) which he did not, as far as i know. once it started to rain we gave up and went home, having lurked for half an hour or so. i'm not that dedicated...
but yes. that was chicago. worth seeing.
other things: for some reason rocky's on right now at random on ITV. i can't be bothered, though. :) i taped the first half of the 100 greatest musicals thing and will doubtless be ranting about that once i've watched both it and the second bit tomorrow night. 'dead like me' is truly fantastic and Must Be Watched by everyone.
new season of 'frasier' starts in the new year! hurrah! more delovely niles/daphneness and hopefully roz/frasier if they bloody rectify That Situation. bastards... however, i trust the 'frasier' team WAY more than i trust joss whedon and david kemper, so they may actually deliver.
want 'scape miniseries NOW. :(
nothing else, i don't think. hope everyone watched 'amélie' and joined in the fabulousness!
