kill all the football fans...

especially the football fans who sing.  in pubs.  very loudly.  and arrive drunk, and carry on drinking...

yup, derby beat forest today.  apparently.  so cue lots of drunken people singing football songs and my having to retreat to the lounge until they went away.  i wasn't in the best of moods this evening to begin with, so drunken singing footy fans weren't what i particularly wanted to deal with...

luckily, apart from that, it wasn't too busy.  i think the gale force winds might have blown most of the potential customers back indoors...

anyway.  i should like to propose a challenge, open to all on my friendslist and those who read my journal.

everyone: send me a mix tape/CD (tapes preferred so i can listen to them on my walkman when wandering; the batteries never last long enough on my discman...) i don't care what's on it, so long as it's not annoying pop songs.  (i think i'll end up with one of those as it is, since i'm posing this challenge to the flat as well...)  i'd prefer a selection of randomness, but send me anything you like, your favourite songs, things i simply have to hear, anything you see fit.  fill both sides, or an entire CD (90/80 minutes respectively.)

most of you have my address (send them to uni if before june; send them to my home address if afterwards...) but if anyone who doesn't have it wants to take part, leave me a comment and i'll email it.

as for why: i feel like experiencing other people's music. no other reason.  most of my cassettes are from when i was little since i can never be bothered to transfer things to tape that i listen to regularly (short of musicals that got taken on holiday a few years ago.)

incidentally, if eni participates, i want some songs from hair. ;)  and if lorna participates, she is obligated to put carina round's the first blood mystery at the start of the tape, since the last one didn't work... and if naomi participates, she has to find marylin manson's nobodies for me...

other than that, it's free rein... no time limit, just let me know if you're sending one by leaving a comment.  don't tell me what you'll be putting on it; i want that to be a surprise (you can put in an explanation if you feel so inclined.)  also, i won't send one in return, unless you really want me to, because nobody else likes my music...

edit: i meant to add: wherever possible, i'd like hand-written tracklists. it just adds to the whole mix-tape feeling, and i collect handwriting...

well, it's all set up and running.  though for some reason, it's decided to kill the right hand edge of my border...

feh.  anyway.  one text-based mood theme.

anyone wants it, you can download the .zip file (0.76MB) here. that includes all 130ish images and a text file containing all the setpic assignments.  all you have to do is create the theme in the console (there's info in the FAQ under the paid accounts section...)  when you create it, though, you'll need to do find+replace to change the 5-digit number in each pic assignment to the one they give you when its created...

i'm so bad at instructions. better ones'll be provided if stuck...

okay.  the kenneth branagh hamlet, aside from being four hours long, is also fantastic.  there is way, way too much to analyse in only 500 words, and that's on only one viewing.  god knows what else i'd come up with after a few more watchings.  i think i may have to buy a copy of it at some point, since blockbuster's want the video back on friday...

i need to get out of this habit of finishing a very small percentage of the work i have to do, and then going off and doing something more interesting that takes four times as long... of course, it wouldn't have taken as long in the first place if my computer wouldn't keep crashing...

anyway, this is first of a song-set to alanis' that i would be good, not done in any order except that this was the line of it that inspired the set in the first place.  they're not all going to be spuffy (one might be buffy/giles, one applies to cordy...) but they'll all pretty much follow this format...
