Arising out of a conversation with [personal profile] commoncomitatus on Saturday on AIM (which, as an aside, we ended up using due to having issues with YIM - my old contacts list was a gut-punch of nostalgia!), I thought it pertinent to update my list of works in progress / to-be-written stories, as I'm pretty sure it's gotten bigger since the last time I did one of these posts...

These are in no particular order but I will at least attempt to cluster them together under separate fandoms, and I'll do the fandoms alphabetically. Pretty sure at this juncture I don't actually have to denote what the pairings will be. :P

Hopefully I haven't missed anything.

Current Works in Progress )

I was also going to list the amount of things which are finished and pending sharing online (FFN and/or AO3) but frankly this is long enough already. :P

My brain is a massive filing cabinet. I'm beginning to suspect this is why my short-term memory is so shoddy...
teylaminh: (Derren Brown - blank)
There was a new Jonathan Creek Chrismas special last night, namely "Daemon's Roost". I knew this was coming but only knew it was on thanks to Denise texting me to ask if I was watching - to which the answer, obviously, was yes, though admittedly with a combination of trepidation and excitement. Trepidation because I fully expected to be disappointed, and excitement because NEW JONATHAN CREEK.

My immediate reactions are already on Twitter but, as ever, this deserves a full write-up. So without further ado...

Daemon's Roost - capslock warning )

Now that this is done, I have a half-drafted Year in Review Meme to post as well. Watch this space...

(PS: Apparently I haven't got any Creek icons on Dreamwidth. Derren will have to do instead...)
teylaminh: (Random - Oblivion wheels)
This one is a bit late because I watched the episode on my own on Friday night (as Paul was out), then re-watched last night with him because I was so busy writing down my reactions in a Notepad file that I missed a few things. Those reactions eventually devolved into capslock snarking because it was all so bloody ridiculous. Nonetheless, they will form the basis of some of this write-up...

The Curse of the Bronze Lamp )

In other news, yesterday I went to see The Book Thief with my mum, and it was pretty good. OH MY HEART. The penultimate scene is so heart-breaking, but so beautifully done. I ship Liesel/Max like burning now, but the father/daughter bond between Hans/Leisel just about broke me into a thousand pieces. Amazing.

I think you definitely need to have read the book first to understand why the film works as well as it does, but you won't escape from the tears either way. :P Very much recommended.

Anyway, thankfully I have survived both onslaughts to my emotions, and now I can get back to my JC headcanons - I still have an awful lot of things to type up, and three entirely separate but nontheless-POTO-related stories to start plotting out, if only the bloody plotbunnies would stop breeding... Plus once we get back on track with the re-watch (hopefully soon, though I've not had a chance to watch "Gallows Gate" pt 2 yet either) and I'm certain there are no more tags to be tagged, I will actually start posting stuff to AO3. Watch this space!!
teylaminh: (Default)
I didn't get to see this last night as it was Noel's birthday, so Paul and I watched it this morning. Probably just as well, seeing as I've had flu for a week and would probably have fallen asleep halfway through otherwise (because I'm ill, not because it was boring).

Anyway, I don't think I have quite as much to say this week...

The Sinner and the Sandman )

One more week to go and then I can get back to indulging my headcanons. :P
teylaminh: (Random - Oblivion wheels)
So, series five of Jonathan Creek started last night (only just in February, it seems). As you might have guessed, I approached this situation with no small amount of trepidation, given the low-flying rumours and episode information handed out beforehand...

I can safely say it wasn't as bad as "The Clue of the Savant's Thumb" - but in fairness, very little could be as bad as that - and I think in many respects I approached series five in much the same way as I approached the POTO movie ten years ago, i.e. that I'd built it up to be so horrendously awful that anything more than that would have been a bonus.

(The irony of these two things being a decade apart has only just occurred to me.)

Anyway, some thoughts under the cut, rambling, shambolic, and with hopefully slightly less capslock abuse than last time, but I promise nothing! (Also: this icon makes me feel better.)

The Letters of Septimus Noone )

So, there it is. Let's see what the next two weeks have to hold. I can't say I feel much better about the possibility of Caroline Quentin returning, even at this juncture, but let's not count our chickens, eh? ;)

In other news, I have a very annoying tickly cough which I suspect is as a result of there being no heating at the Access Centre and thus breathing in recycled fan-heater air. I've been sneezing / sniffly for months now so I wish it would just turn into a cold and be done with it!
teylaminh: (Christine - I can't escape)
Apparently the three new episodes, a.k.a Series 5, are due to be shown at some point in February. Not exactly sure when. In any case, given the latest news, at least it'll be over with quickly...

Cut because of minor spoilers. )

I am tempted to livetweet the new series when it's on, as I suspect I will have rather a lot to say once the incoherent silent rage has worn off, and it might be helpful to have a point of reference. :P

In other news, Paul and I have made a start on marathoning all eleven seasons of Frasier. :D We're currently halfway through season 1 (because they're only short, of course) and it's really great fun finally getting to see all the early episodes I missed the first time around. I didn't start watching properly until season 7, and even then managed to miss a few episodes (including the finale) because of Channel 4 rescheduling it...

So obviously, I spent the weekend reading fanfic (Niles/Daphne was one of my first 'ships, of course, then latterly Frasier/Roz) and episode transcripts and prematurely rewatching the season 7 finale on YouTube because OH MY GOD THAT EPISODE. (Resolving seven years of unrequited feelings / UST: ur doin it perfickly.)

Also I am amusing myself by retrospectively ascertaining where my Niles-crush came from whilst simultaneously trying to fight it off with a big stick (I think it was just lying dormant all these years). I can't even blame the frivolity of youth this time around. :P

It's a relief, actually - with three separate rewatches (X-Files, Buffy and now Frasier) in addition to the Grand JC Watchathon (which I must get back on track with), I do at least have something with which to distract myself from the above-mentioned fail...

And I'm determined to do a Farscape marathon this year as well, as Lloyd was nice enough to get me season 2 for Christmas. Not quite sure when, though - maybe when we're a bit further through Frasier and have finally finished Twin Peaks (it transpires watching a mind-mangling David Lynch show on a 12-inch screen at bedtime is not the best idea; we've moving it to the big TV downstairs instead...) I might actually attempt proper episode recaps this time around, as it's another of those fandoms which will benefit from being Older and Wiser. :)

(Oh, speaking of the TXF and BtvS rewatches, Denise and I have hit season 2 of both now. Which means abduction arc / "Irresistible" (a.k.a the Episode That Turned Me Into A Shipper) / "Humbug" (first comedy episode); and Spike, respectively. :D)

I think this is quite long enough. I'll try to update before the Creekfail occurs, but I promise nothing. ;)
teylaminh: (JC - Jonathan - facepalm)
I still need to do a post about The Choir: Sing While You Work - it was another casualty of my week off in January, when the only thing I achieved was copious hours of sleep. Next year I'm going to try and get some time off that's actually around Christmas, imagine that...

Anyway, in the meantime, because it's January, I'm floundering in another JC fandom resurgence. I suspect half of the reason for this is completing the fanfic for Denise, "A Creekmas Carol", on New Year's Eve (a week late, actually), which resulted in not only a "director's cut" (one scene re-written with a different outcome, and a What Happened Next) but a load of other stuff, too: another post-ALTAF plotbunny, and an extension of an already-compelted series 3 tag. Consequently, I have a lot of loose ends to type up - and for every page or two I type up, I produce about twice as many by hand an hour later.

(A couple of nights ago I made a start on the JC/POTO crossover. I am officially doomed.)

So, anyway, last night on Tumblr someone posted an article under the JC tag - I have no idea where from - regarding the upcoming "series 5", i.e. the three new episodes. (Renwick fancies himself a bit Moffat/Gatiss-y. Pretty sure only Sherlock can get away with three-episode serieses. :P) Given the epic fail that was the Easter Special, I've been approaching these with some trepidation, not least because Sheridan Smith has quit due to conflicting priorities - and I'm still convinced Renwick threw a hissy fit and she walked out because of that. I simply can't fathom how the show can work now - Renwick deliberately set up new!Jonathan in such a way as to completely disregard his previous life, and the final scene with Joey really seemed like a heavy-handed attempt to force things back to how they were in anticipation of three new episodes. Like Renwick wrote a full-stop and the BCC turned it into a semi-colon. :P

So, the thing on Tumblr contained the barest murmur of Caroline Quentin expressing an interest in returning for one of the episodes.

That's good, right? That's what I've been moaning about and hoping would happen for the past 14 years?

In some respects, yes. But OH MY GOD, I am so conflicted about this. So obviously my LJ bears the brunt. (Some of what I say here may spill over into my upcoming J/M essay, or vice versa, because my headcanon is so ingrained now - and makes so much more sense than what's on screen - that I can't help but refer to it...)

My Conflicted Feelings, Let Me Show You Them. )

Incidentally, I have no idea when the new episodes are airing, which is kind of a blessing as I won't be constantly counting down days in cold dread / inevitable excitement. Either way, I'm sure my LJ will be a minefield of brain-broken ranting. Consider this fair warning. :P

Okay, I'm going to post this before it gets any longer, and read / work on some fic to take my mind off it all. Over 'n' out.
teylaminh: (Default)
Have been somewhat busy this weekend so only got around to watching this one this morning - hopefully this recap will not be as insanely long as the last episode, for the most part because the action is dragged out over two episodes - and also because much of the decent J/M stuff is in part 2.

You may be pleased to note (or possibly not?) that I only have six screencaps for this episode - but I've made up for that in part two. :P

Series 2, episode 4 -  )

So, yeah. This one is very light on 'caps simply because Jonathan and Maddy don't have that much interaction - there were other scenes of them together but I had real difficulty in trying to get decent pics. Fear not, however - the next episode has one of my favourite opening sequences EVER, plus a little glimpse at what cohabiting life would be like for them, and it's awesome. :D
teylaminh: (JC - magic - J/M)
IT'S BAAACK!

The hiatus is over and the re-watch has finally come back to life. I'd been saving up quite a lot of Thoughts until we got to this episode, for the most part because it contains a Very Important Character Reveal which, more often than not, I almost wish had never been thought up... but more on that later.

This is one of my favourites: after the snarkathon that was "Time Waits for Norman", Jonathan and Maddy are heading in a slightly more positive direction, and there are lots of lovely moments - which of course means this one has quite a lot of screencaps, too. ;)

Series 2, episode 3 -  )

I had a feeling this one would be long, simply because I had so many things I needed to say, but this has taken me about three hours!

By next week I need to finish my Gallows Gate tag - but before that I need to get the final couple of paragraphs of the Pirates fic done. Thank anything I have Friday off!

Oh, and I still need to start screencapping series 3. If you thought this episode was bad for picspam, you ain't seen nothing yet.

Over and out.
teylaminh: (Random - Oblivion wheels)
Somewhat overdue an update - this is what happens when I have work to do.

Firstly: in writing news, I've finished my latest Pirates story, "Oranges to Florida", inasmuch as it's done on paper but I have 6.5 hand-written pages still to type up. Once that's done I will give it another once-over before posting to FFN / plugging on Tumblr. I've been trying to keep the style consistent, but a recent bout of reinspiration has meant that the latter half of the story is more dialogue-heavy than the beginning (and indeed more than I envisaged when I started), as well as including more from Jack's POV in addition to Elizabeth's. (Also, thanks to starting to follow the Sparrabeth blog on Tumblr halfway through writing it, the ending went in a direction I hadn't quite intended because my head was full of meta and subtext and FEELS. I'm not complaining, though, because it ends with some bloody glorious angst. :D)

Paul and I have finally made some progress in moving around the upstairs rooms, although the plan did change a little bit. We're about halfway done now - the daybed and TV / video storage unit (ex-wardrobe) have switched rooms with the PC and cube unit (effectively making the larger spare bedroom the office rather than the box room). This has meant that Denise and I were able to commence our X-Files rewatch on Sunday as we have somewhere to actually watch the videos. :D

In the process of room rearranging I thankfully uncovered my Sims 3 disc so have installed that on the laptop. It now runs properly and has already eaten about 16 hours of my life; at some point soon I'm going to start creating my own (hopefully fandom) characters, and I'm already dreading the insanity that will inevitably ensue... I think I'll probably start with Jonathan Creek; if I'm successful in orchestrating a Sim!Harry, I will be sure to share the (doubtless terrifying) results. :D

After tweeting a random conversation about badgers at work this afternoon, it has also resulted in potentially re-starting the Grand Jonathan Creek Watchathon soon with [personal profile] cloudsinvenice. (Badgers = Jonathan Creek. So shall it be forever amen.)

The conversation in question went something like this:

Karen, who walks to work: I saw a badger walking to work this morning.
[Cue jokes about the badger going to the office.]
Me: Did it have a briefcase?
Maria: *has hysterics*

(We were all very tired and it was quiet in the office. :P)

As for the X-Files rewatch, on Sunday we managed to get through the first seven episodes ("Pilot", "Deep Throat", "Squeeze", "Conduit", "The Jersey Devil", "Shadows" and "Ghost in the Machine" - the fact that I still remember these without looking them up demonstrates how many times I've seen season 1). My intention this time around is to (a) finish all nine seasons, even though it's going to take a bit longer than last time, and (b) top up my original LJ episode reviews / recaps with different episodes. In all likelihood, however, I will just go on Tumblr and flail at the shippiness instead. :P

Rewatches with friends are fun. :D

A few thoughts so far... )

Still not much to say about the actual episodes yet, as season 1 was a hodge-podge of "monster of the week" and early conspiracy stuff before the proper mythology set in, but I'll try and do an update every time we watch some episodes, at the very least. (I do, however, reserve the right to continually flail over "Post-Modern Prometheus". All my life.)
teylaminh: (JC - melon - J/M)
Okay, finally getting around to posting this... (Oh, also: I've finally set up Semagic to cross-post to DW automatically when I post here, as I kept forgetting and had repeatedly imported my old LJ entries to DW, thus ending up with older entries 3 or 4 times. I've deleted it all and started again, with cross-posting now happening by default...)

To explain: I'm working on a post-Easter Special angstfic for Jonathan Creek, the first draft of which I sent to [personal profile] commoncomitatus, typos and all. Following that, we somehow ended up having the Epicest Jonathan Creek Fandom Discussion of All Time, which now deserves to be noted on LJ along with all the in-depth episode write-ups.

My initial plan was to finish the story first so I could post the emails in their entirety, in context... but instead I'll go from a point that makes somewhat more sense outside of the context of the fic. Unfortunately I still have to explain the basic concept of the story, which is spoiled underneath this cut here. )

That being said, here is the Fandom Discussion - all typos as per the original emails, including one particularly spectacularly hilarious one from Eni. The only additions / amendments are to put in words that were missing, just so it's a bit easier to read. The first few emails are snipped to take out some irrelevant / nonsense bits, and there are also some spoilers for the Doomfic and/or my ALTAF-verse, but probably nothing more than I've already mentioned on LJ elsewhere. I've also colour-coded: mine are purple, Eni's are green.

In which we analyse the Easter Special to death and back and still get nowhere. SPOILERS and FLAIL beneath this cut. You were warned. )

So, there you have it. All other Jonathan Creek fandom discussions and/or theories are hereby null and void. :P

Oh, whilst I'm here, as I haven't updated in ages - new job is going much better now. I'm pretty much always busy and too tired when I get home from work to actually update, but so far I'm really enjoying it. This is a strange, alien feeling after the last few months of hating every second of every day in Legal! I've also covered two cases at New Aston House in Newtown, which transpires not to be too bad to get to (45 minutes door to door because I can get the train halfway). So yeah.

The only odd thing is that - obviously - I've run into people I used to work with at Ladywood. Amanda is my acting manager, Tina H is still the Senior Admin Assistant for West&Central, and Cynthia still works as a Clerk... but so far we've all been dancing around Sandra-gate and the reason I left Children's Services in the first place... which is kind of weird, but also a relief. The only person I've spoken to about it properly has been Jenny, because she knew about it before she had anything to do with Child Protection, from knowing me personally. So yeah. I'm pretty sure both Amanda and Tina are fully aware of my history with Child Protection AND my reasons for leaving, and the silence has been mutual. Frankly, I'm not going to complain.

This is long enough already, so: over and out, for some indeterminate amount of time...
teylaminh: (SB - Norma - broken)
I am still two write-ups behind, despite having promised myself I'd get them done this weekend. Am busy tonight and also Wednesday (meal for Jade's 21st) so hopefully on Thursday I might get at least one of them done.

Anyway, last night was the long-awaited Easter special of Jonathan Creek, namely "The Clue of the Savant's Thumb". I really wish it had been on Sunday night instead so I'd have a day to recover - as it stands, I didn't get to bed until gone midnight last night thanks to obsessively refreshing both Twitter and Tumblr for fan reactions, and even then did not get to sleep until nearly two.

I probably shouldn't be abusing New Job's technology to be doing LJ entries, but as it's quiet and nobody is looking (shhhh!) I shall at least try and get some of this nonsense out of my head before I attempt (and doubtless fail) to sleep tonight. (Entry also finished at home much later.)

Because seriously, I need to vent this. [livejournal.com profile] cloudsinvenice and [livejournal.com profile] thefleshfailure may both wish to wait until after they've watched before clicking the cut...

The Clue of the Savant's Thumb - quite obviously, contains SPOILERS and copious amounts of CAPSLOCK ABUSE. )

I hope the three episodes being filmed in the autumn are better - or that Renwick falls out with Sarah Alexander and finds some way to write her character out like everyone else. :P

Okay, hopefully now I've vented that I will actually get some sleep tonight. SO TIRED.
teylaminh: (JC - melon - J/M)
This long weekend I want to get around to doing a couple of LJ entries (last day at work plus two weeks off, and the Derby Gaol vigil from last week), as well as some Jonathan Creek screencaps, at least the rest of series 2 and "Black Canary" if not more.

Talking of which... the next Easter special is this Monday and I AM EXCITE. There have been two interviews posted on Tumblr recently with Alan Davies and Sheridan Smith, in which Alan moans that "Creek Geeks" used to send him awful fanfic in the 90s (trying to write mysteries and failing - it makes me wonder what he might make of mine, being mostly character / non-mystery based!) and Sheridan made a very interesting / intriguing comment. She said it's been three years since the last special (which means I've been plotting the Doomfic that long without getting anywhere!) and Joey is the same old Joey, but Jonathan has changed quite a lot.

She wouldn't reveal any more than that, but needless to say it got the cogs turning. :) I am, of course, going to be on the look-out for another veiled Maddy!mention, as they are now traditional. In light of that comment from Sheridan, I am very curious as to whether Renwick will still be projecting his own feelings onto Jonathan regarding Caroline's departure, and whether it means that actually, Renwick is the one who's grown up about it. Or, as ever, I'm just reading too much into it. I will try and do a full and comprehensive write-up of the episode afterwards, anyway. :)

In any case, I blame that comment for the fact that I had another Creek dream this morning which was EPIC and SHIPPY and which I now can't remember properly. Of course.

In which Jonathan Creek becomes sci-fi... )

So, that's that.

The JC flail has not disappeared, incidentally, it's just hibernating until such point as [livejournal.com profile] cloudsinvenice and I recommence our rewatch. I have an idea for another story brewing away, namely a POTO crossover (don't ask), so that combined with the imminent Easter special are to blame for the dream, I suspect.

Anyway, today I will try and get some embroidery done before cooking tea and going to the pub, and later this weekend I will do proper updates. I want to get them written before the new JC episode because that will take enough time as it is. :P

Over and out - for now.
teylaminh: (JC - melon - J/M)
This is very, very long overdue, for which I can only apologise. We watched the episode in question on 24th February (a day late because on the Saturday I fell asleep at half-five, all the long hours at work having finally caught up with me) and the re-watch is temporarily on hold whilst I catch up with screencaps and [livejournal.com profile] cloudsinvenice catches up on her end of the re-watch. Just as well really, because my two weeks "between jobs" have been mostly unproductive. I'll do a proper write-up probably tomorrow about the non-uneventful side of my leave, and my last day at Legal. (Obviously, despite all good intentions to the contrary, I have done nothing but oversleep for a fortnight.)

Anyway, onwards.

Series 2, episode 2 - "Time Waits for Norman" )

Right, thankfully the self-imposed hiatus means I can catch up on my screencapping, so I'll toddle off and do the rest of series 2 now...
teylaminh: (SB - Norma - broken)

Apart from my subconscious being evil, I haven't actually updated properly about what we got up to over Valentine's Day. As it transpires, thanks to migraines and fandom, we did not get up to very much.

Cut for length )

Anyway, migraine(s) aside, on Saturday we did the Jonathan Creek re-watch (of course), as well as Captain America and Thor, in readiness for Avengers Assemble on Sunday night. I would say more but, you know, migraine - plus we didn't watch Avengers until late Sunday night and I'd already broken my brain with JC fandom stuff by then...

Fandom Stuff )

So yeah. I would probably have more to say about Avengers Assemble but unfortunately, the JC stuff ate my brain.

teylaminh: (JC - cockroach OTP - J/M)
Right then, we're on to series 2. As much as I have lamented the fact that this show is so short, it will at least make the re-watch less of an epic marathon...

Series 2, Episode 1 - "Danse Macabre" )

Next week will be "Time Waits for Norman" - I don't have many pictures for that one, for reasons which will become apparent... Once we get past the halfway point of series 2, however, I anticipate things will start to get very interesting indeed...

Click here for "Time Waits for Norman"...
teylaminh: (Photo - Sunset pink)
I'm only doing a three-day week, y'see. My goal for my three-day week is to finally drag my flex into a sensible negative, and seeing as I got in at 8.25 this morning (because Paul had a meeting at 8.30 so we both left early) I should be able to gain an hour if I leave at 5.15 - assuming I have anything to do, that is. (David is out at a meeting all morning and there's barely anything in typing either.) I'll get my standard 7.18 hours for Thursday and Friday so anything over and above that for the next couple of days is a bonus, basically. :)

Yesterday was deathly boring, but thankfully I've got just enough writing energy left to see me through. Fandom Stuff, as ever. )

In other news, I've been thinking how to tackle Lisa's rainbow birthday cake and I have a pretty good idea how to achieve it. Probably the easiest thing is to make a double-batch of cake mix (so four eggs / 8oz ingredients), weigh it, divide it into seven and colour each bowlful separately, then essentially bake seven different cakes and stick them together. Works in theory, whether it works in practice remains to be seen...

The whole thing is going to get covered in chocolate fudge anyway, so as long as the layers look neat on the inside I'm not too worried about the outside - assuming it doesn't collapse under its own weight, obviously. That being said, not sure on filling - chocolate spread? Nutella? Marmelade for a chocolatey-orangey flavour? Answers on a postcard...

Right, this has killed the morning, at least. Hopefully I'll have something to do after lunch.
teylaminh: (Retro - period)
Well, actually, we intended to be productive, but it got scuppered.

On Friday we had Lisa over for tea, as she was belatedly bringing over Paul's birthday presents. I cooked her a fish curry with brown rice (because we are healthy) and then we sat and watched Moon. It ended up being quite a late one - I think I went to bed around 1.00am...

On Saturday we went out to get some supplies and stuff for tea (including some very nice steaks from the butcher which were a bargain at £3.50 each) but then didn't manage to do very much else because I had a(nother) migraine - my own fault really, as I'd had two glasses of wine and a bottle of cider the night before. I did try and fend it off before bed by having some water, but no joy. It persisted all day and was the annoying sort of migraine where I forgot about it until I did something silly like bending and straightening, which would make my head pound incessantly. So we didn't manage to go through any boxes on Saturday.

We watched Jonathan Creek at six as usual (actually, the migraine might have been a good thing as it subdued me somewhat; I'm wary of my squee not ruining the episodes for Paul!) and then I pootled about on Little Big Planet whilst Paul cooked dinner. Then we watched The Artist, at least until the last half-hour or so when Paul fell asleep. Obviously. :P

Oh yeah, and in the morning we made some pineapple sorbet - initially this was to get rid of some accumulated egg whites in the freezer, then it transpired not to need any egg whites after all. I need to give Katie the recipe later so I'll post it here too. It tastes amazing. :)

On Sunday, therefore, we were still intending to go through boxes, except I was struck with the Ovary-Kicking Period of Doom and spent the day not doing very much at all. Namely, sitting on the sofa with my wheat bag and catching up on EastEnders (I'm finally up to speed now after being persistently a week behind since Christmas), playing a bit of Red Dead Redemption and doing my JC write-up. Chicken stir-fry for tea and then the evening spent being distracted by Tumblr, as usual. I got a few words of fic down but nothing particularly substantial - I want to get the tags done and dusted pretty sharpish as I need to print them off for Eni for her birthday. (The post-ALTAF angst is still not cooperating, either. Grrr.)

I also seem to have acquired several plans for my two weeks off work. Cut for length. )

This week I'm only in work three days (yay!) because we've booked off Thursday and Friday. Normally for Valentine's Day we book a meal somewhere but we're both skint; my other plan was to have a day trip to Stratford, but trains are just as expensive, so instead we have a vague plan of going to the Sea Life Centre as I have a 2-for-1 voucher that I think is still valid... Then I'll probably cook that monkfish that's been in the freezer for ages, as I'd been saving it for a special occasion - which will work out much cheaper than going for a meal as all I'll have to buy is Parma ham and Arborio rice (for the samphire risotto).

Which reminds me: we've been engaged a year as of today! That's really gone quickly. :)

Oh yeah, and the other thing that happened this weekend was I finally bit the bullet and added Sharn on Facebook, she added me back, it's all good. I feel silly for worrying about it now. Socially Awkward Penguin, thy name is [livejournal.com profile] teylaminh. She asked for details of my leaving do, so if she could come that would awesome. I apologised for delaying so long in getting in touch and she admitted to being just as guilty, so yes. The internet is magic, and I should not be so paranoid.

Okay, there's nothing to do today and this entry has only taken me up to 11.00am. THIS is why I can't build flex, dammit. (I even got up early today in an attempt to fool the snow, then it took me half an hour to leave the house due to tired fuzzy-headedness and I missed the before-eight bus by a matter of seconds so was still late. I don't know why I bother.)
teylaminh: (JC - magic - J/M)
I have been looking forward to this one for AGES. :D Predictable fangirl is predictable.

Series 1, Episode 5 - "The House of Monkeys" )

Next week we start on series 2 with "Danse Macabre", and at some point during that week I need to collect some series 2 screencaps, because frankly these write-ups take long enough as it is. :) (I really wanted to make an icon for this episode but I'm not suitably inspired. Maybe later...)

teylaminh: (Photo - Atget mouth door)
We went to see Les Misérables last night. Pretty awesome.

Les Mis Thoughts - contains SPOILERS )

Overall then: highly recommended indeed. First entry on my "fandom: les misérables" tag!

I have no idea why I thought it would be a good idea to go and see a three-hour long, emotionally draining musical after my Legal Assistant day - we didn't get back until midnight and today I'm exhausted. Definitely worth it, though.

That other fandom, you know, the one I've barely talked about lately... )

My leave date is now confirmed as 22nd February, with my new start date as 11th March, and I've sent an "unpaid leave" request through so hopefully payroll will get the hint and I won't have to argue with them later... The next month is going to be very very tight indeed, but at least March payday is exactly four weeks from February's, so with any luck the new job will make the month fly past...

Okay, I think this is long enough.
