just so i don't forget them, here are my new year's resolutions, most of which i've thought about for a while, and some off the top of my head:

2004's resolutions

1) organisation skills. since i'll have rather too much free time on my hands when uni starts up again, i should probably try and organise it properly so i don't spend copious hours online doing very little indeed. so i'll make a proper timetable and assign time periods for lectures (obviously), job, doing work, reading, internet privileges, TV-watching, web-building, writing. the last of these will probably be the worst to try and organise, due to the random, annoying nature of my Muses, and their tendency to come up with things at awful times of the day that mostly can't be scribbled down for later reference... but i'll just have to try. the whole point of this one is so that i actually get reasonable amounts of sleep, even though i don't have any morning lectures this term.

2) writing. piggy-backing off the last one, i really need to organise my writing time properly, so i spend equal amounts of time on different fandoms and general writing. at the moment, i spend too much time writing fanfic, and not enough doing original stuffs; this isn't necessarily bad, because the fanfic is, more often than not, easier to write, and helps me practice styles/forms that i can use in original stuff later on. the downside is i do so much of it, i feel somewhat 'tainted' by it, and constantly as though i should really be working on orphan eyes or the short stories or something. so maybe if i can say, "okay, on mondays i'll work on buffy-fic; on tuesdays, farscape; wednesdays, original", etc, i can get my brain and Muses organised into some kind of set system so i devote equal time to everything...

well, i can hope...

3) capitalisation. purely because it's gone from being slightly original and different to plain annoying and lazy, i might start using capital letters in my journal again... or at least, start using them more.

4) friends lists. i made this one a while ago and then couldn't be bothered to carry it out due to the internet-being-down fiasco. i intend to be a good livejournal friend and a) read everyone's entries properly and b) comment on them, especially if i have something to say. this works two ways; if you find the constant comment-making to be annoying, do let me know. :)

5) site-building. i intended a while ago to learn CSS and other very basic HTML stuff that i should've learnt already...

6) lifestyle. this includes: eating properly, at more or less regular hours of the day; cooking Real Food more often, even if it's just pasta, or random meat and mashed potatoes; keeping my room tidy; not spending copious amounts of money on things i don't need, because even though i have a job, it doesn't pay all the rent.

7) workload. get things done in a reasonable amount of time for once...

8) take more photos.

9) a soundtrack for life. another livejournal-related one: make sure i'm always listening to something, even if it's pointless and i'd never want to live up to listening to it (which seems to be the case with most of my CD collection, so...) because my journal'll look infinitely more interesting if i actually fill in the 'current music' field... same goes for the mood field; i must always be feeling something, preferably something other than 'tired' or 'exhausted', but those'll do at a pinch.

10) the future. it's a given that most of this semester is now going to be spent in the careers library at uni, figuring out what to do with the rest of my existence. but with any luck i'll come up with something that isn't "broke" or "struggling writer". head waitress of minkatia is fine and dandy, but i need some way of funding it in the first place...

so. there we go. liklihood of my keeping any of them? pretty slim, however, i can but try...

Hellloooo. I found you via [livejournal.com profile] thefleshfailure - was entertained by your comments. So you're in Brum doing English? I applied there, but chose York in the end. Thought I'd say hi. Also, you do fanfic - do you roleplay as well? I've just set up a comm - [livejournal.com profile] nancytribe if you like Buffy RPG. If not, never mind!

oh, hello. i found [livejournal.com profile] thefleshfailure through [livejournal.com profile] queenc2346, so i suppose it's six degrees of livejournal separation, or something. :)

i'm from brum, yes, doing english in derby (i was originally doing occupational therapy here, quit that, liked the city too much to leave...) and i do indeed do fanfic. i haven't RPed for many moons now (and what i did didn't really count as proper RPG since it was manic 3am roleplay things on AIM...) but i'll certainly have a look...

thanks for the comment. :)
