Hair woes.

Not quite woes, but still.  As anticipated, it looked rubbish this morning post-swimming and post-washing. The wax did nothing except give me a bizarre devil-horns effect and leave my hands greasy all day.  I bought some fibre-putty this evening because I seem to remember that working a little better...

At the very least, everyone at work really liked it and half of them didn't recognise me this morning...

Washed hair again tonight and it's STILL full of horrible waxiness (it's supposed to wash out - WTF?) so I will doubtless wake up with a stupid bed-shaped kink in it in the morning...

I can't win either way, can I?  Hair should be abolished.

In other news, Farscape may be returning in web form via web-based short episodes... Considering my PC is temperamental and everything these days is geared towards owning the most top of the range PC in the universe, this effectively bollockses up my changes of watching, if it's even true.  Skiffy US have apparently signed the deal, but they said that and the end of season 3...

I am possibly too old and embittered these days to be positive about it...

It's not certain anyone outside the US will be able to access directly from Skiffy. Nothing's been said either way, it could be that Skiffy open it up to internationals, they might host it on their local sites, or it might go to another distributor, or it could be up for purchase without ads. Who knows. That said, either way, I'm sure we can hook you up with a supplier ;)

I think my cynicism has a lot to do with three things:

1. I don't trust Skiffy as far as I could throw them, after the initial cancellation fiasco and all the idiocy surrounding it. My cynical side views this 'online episodes' thing in much the same way as I viewed the mini-series - they can't shut us up, so they throw us a bone. Given how much they underestimated the viewing figures in the first place, I highly doubt they realise it even HAS an online fanbase and will get a horrible shock when all the people downloading the episodes manage to kill their undoubtedly pathetic bandwidth quota... you KNOW it's going to happen...

2. As ever, the US believe they are the centre of the universe and obviously nowhere else in the world owns televisions...

3. I am too world-weary to get excited about fandom any more, especially fandoms which disappoint as much as real life.

At least until we know more, I'm not going to get my hopes up remotely...

Well to be fair, they didn't have to do this, they didn't have to do anything. Plus it's not all about Skiffy, it's about Henson et al putting this stuff together into a package that Skiffy can go for. This is promising for us exactly because we are such a big online fandom, and that never got counted in the old days when all they looked at were Neilson ratings that didn't do us justice. No doubt their servers won't be able to cope with it, but that's ok, it will all go to show an audience, with money, which equals profit for Skiffy and encourages them to do more of the same.

I understand your reluctance to invest hope, I'm swinging wildly myself, we all know the effects of the ups and downs of the old days. But I think it is something to brighten a wet Thursday afternoon... or Friday night as it is now. I'll take what I can get, 'cos you never know what might happen next week.

At the end of the day, unfortunately, it IS all about Skiffy - they're the ones with all the money...

I'll believe it when I see it, I think...

I dunno, Skiffy do hold all the cards, as they're the most likely place to ever fund/distribute more 'Scape, but if Hensons don't push and make deals and come up with new ways to get new 'Scape out there, then there'll definitely never be any more.

The deal's been signed, which of course doesn't mean what it used to, but still, it's a massive step forwards. It shows Skiffy are serious about it right now, and it allows production to start and the wheels to start turning.

It's pretty exciting to hear this sort of news... "production of new Farscape" almost five years after cancellation, and two and a half years after the mini series aired. Even if the worst were to happen and Skiffy pulled out again, this has still happened. People are still talking about 'Scape, still making deals, and still pushing for more... I think if nothing else, that is pretty exciting.
