Pretty Winterness.

Even though I'm getting a little bit sick of the snow now, given its propensity to scupper all reasonable travel plans (my mum and David have cancelled tomorrow evening so we need to add them to the list of people we haven't managed to see before Christmas thanks to the weather...), at the same time I really do enjoy how pretty everything looks...
There are icicles everywhere! I don't think I've ever seen icicles in Britain, though they were everywhere when I was in EuroDisney back in January 2009, so I became a little obsessed with taking photos of them.
They're adorning all the gutters in Kings Heath at the moment, including ours. Under the cut are the Seriously Impressive Icicles I mentioned in my last post... I wish I could reach out and grab one just to measure it, but you'll have to make do with the photographs. :)

(Sorry about the enormousness, I keep forgetting to resize because Facebook does it for me. :P)
The first was taken on Monday night, the second this evening, Wednesday. As a point of reference, take a look at the longest icicle on the left hand side, against the brickwork of the window frame. Then compare it with the second photograph. It's grown an entire two bricks!!
The last photograph is taken from underneath, also this evening, so you can see that ridiculous overhanging pile of snow. Thankfully I have no intention of using the back door, so there is no risk of being impaled. :P
I just wish all of this wonderful snow had come next week so we could all enjoy it, rather than having to worry about getting to work, getting home again, or whether our pipes are going to freeze. Oh to be six years old again, eh?
Proper updates etc. next week hopefully. :)

Date: 2010-12-23 09:17 am (UTC)I have no intention of going out into the snowy wastes of our back garden so hopefully a crash helmet will not be necessary.
I kind of want to keep them, actually. I want to break that big one off to put it in the freezer. :)
(And I was wrong in the entry, they've actually grown three bricks!)

Date: 2010-12-23 09:33 am (UTC)...though I still say bike helmet, even in places with no icicles. It's like War Of The Worlds, they're gonna come for you, and you must be prepared!!

Date: 2010-12-24 10:30 am (UTC)Kings Heath looks really pretty, or did until the snow started melting, at least The icicles over our bathroom window (not as impressive as the photos) have started melting, dripping onto the windowsill below and forming one mega-icicle underneath. :D
Also we had a fox in our back garden this morning playing with something, but unfortunately it was too dark for the camera to pick up. :(
Merry Christmas!
