OMFG AWESOMESAUCE.

Hee! I thoroughly enjoyed that. :D

My least favourite parts were the Emma/Will "Touch-A Touch Me" sequence (although Magenta!Santana and Columbia!Brittany totally saved it - they were going to be part of my fandom meme but I couldn't fit them in), Carl being a jackass (seriously, can we get rid of him now) and the lack of Puckerman as Frank. I really think he would have been perfect. I thought the lyrics changing for Emma/Will was very clunky also - either do the song properly or don't include it at all. Considering Will was meant to be rehearsing, you'd think he would have sung Rocky's actual song. :P

On the plus side, the rest of it was cracktastically amazing. KURT AS RIFF RAFF OMG. He even sounded like Richard O'Brien!!! And I totally guessed Santana would be Magenta before it even started. Criminologist!Sue!!! (I want Jane Lynch to be the Narrator on the next stage tour - she would be frigging AWESOME. I can only begin to imagine the come-backs to shout-outs. :D) Finn and Rachel as Brad and Janet was fairly predictable, and I wish Kurt could have sung the opening song a la Riff in the film (though obviously it would have to be Santana's lips...), and I really get the impression they only did this because of Artie actually being in a wheelchair and thus having an automatic character - though his acknowledgement of that was equal parts uncomfortable and ironic.

The "Janet! Dr Scott! Janet! Brad! Rocky! Grr!" sequence was funny, and I liked that they played homage to the film with the headshots (with additional commentay from Sue, obviously, and Will stepping in as Brad).

Also: Mercedes as Frank was... odd, but strangely good. As soon as Will suggested Kurt I was like "...WTF?", and I'm glad they didn't go there. He was ideal for Riff - the right build and everything.

As I said before, hopefully this will get enough of the younger generation intrigued by the show and make them watch the original, and with any luck MTV will see sense and abandon their stupid bloody remake idea. I approached this episode of Glee with some trepidation, it has to be said, but I'm quite surprised that they pulled it off. For all the points where it was utterly cringeworthy, it made up with some genius casting.

ALSO IT HAD BARRY BOSTWICK AND MEAT LOAF IN IT.

I think this is my favourite episode now. :)

Also - I'd forgotten how much I enjoy Rocky. BRB listening to soundtrack forever. <3

PS: Looks like the remake is in production for 2012. Boooo. :(

I ACTUALLY CHOKED AT BOSTWICK/MEATLOAF AND HAD TO REWIND BECAUSE I THOUGHT I WAS IMAGINING IT.

I confess, I laughed so hard I actually choked at the "Janet" / "Doctor Scott" / &c &c &c sequence. And then felt embarrassed.

I will also confess, I spent half of "Touch-A-Touch-Me" thinking it was scary how much like Susan Emma could look if she wanted to, and the other half going "MY ~WORD~, MISTER SCHUESTER." Oh, and a third half ('cause it's a game of three halves?) giggling at Brittany/Santana. BECAUSE LOL.

Kurt as Riff scared me. HE WAS ~IDENTICAL!!~.

...I'm sure there was more, but I've forgotten...

Hee. I already knew they were in it thanks to Metro. :D

I thought Kurt was the best thing about it, but Riff is my favourite character anyway. :)

The lack of the Floorshow was a shame, but I think they had to end on Timewarp just because it's iconic. Also the Floorshow is like the biggest bloody section of the film, and I think it might have been a bit difficult to achieve. ;)

The trans-Atlantic divide is quite weird, actually - over in the US it's all about the film, and over here it's more about the stage show. I think in America this episode probably looked a bit weird because they were performing it on stage, whereas I was just like, "But the set's exactly the same...?" before I realised why. ;)

DAMN IT THEY OWE ME A FRANK N PUCKERMAN.

I think I am inherently freaked out when people are unexpectedly able to morph so flawlessly and effortlessly into other people. ESPECIALLY WHEN ONE OF THEM IS KURT WHO - AND I QUOTE - "LOOKS LIKE A TWELVE-YEAR-OLD MILKMAID", AND THE OTHER IS RICHARD O'BRIAN, WHO - AND I DO NOT QUOTE - DOES NOT.

The Floorshow is... confusing. I'd imagine they probably wanted to avoid it for fear of alienating (heh) anyone in their admittedly massive fanbase who doesn't know the show. Because, yea, Time Warp is iconic, and everyone knows it, even if they don't know Rocky itself.

LOL FRANK'N'PUCK. I confess I miss him a lot. He better come back soon. I still can't quite figure out what I thought of Mercedes!Frank, though I did love her logic for wanting the part... and I did think her vocals on "Sweet Transvestite" (annoying lyric changes aside) were ~stunning. That woman needs a solo ~every week~.

Yeeeah. Jennifer Saunders is terrifyingly good at that. So is Katie Brand, but to a lesser extent...

I love Richard O'Brien. Even though he's now about 60 and looks even more cadaverous than ever. I've literally had a crush on him since The Crystal Maze, before I even knew what Rocky was. :) (My mum used to fancy Yul Brynner so it's CLEARLY genetic.)

The only plus point of the Floorshow is (a) drag queens and (b) everyone gets a go, though it does go on for a bit... and yeah, out of context it is quite alienating. :)

And all those people who knew about Timewarp without knowing about Rocky may now be suitable intrigued. :) I'm all for introducing new people to the fanbase. BUT NOT THROUGH A REMAKE.

I just remember when they did Kiss and Puck looked amazing in make-up. My reasons for casting him as Frank are entirely shallow, of course (I do like his voice, too), but I don't think he would have been very willing, actually. ;)

Merc N Furter was amazing, though. It made literally no sense changing "Transsexual" to "Sensational" (aside from the fact that Transsexual is the name of a PLACE!) considering they didn't change "Transvestite" into anything and she clearly... isn't a transvestite. Yeah, the lyrics changes were quite weird.

Jennifer Saunders is terrifying, oh man. I still die every time I watch her Celine Dion.

LOL YUL BRENNER. It amuses me NO END that mine was the same (and she saw him on stage in The King And I, which is something I'm supposed to be jealous of, only I'm more jealous of the fact that she saw Angela Lansbury).

Seconded on the remake. Sometimes remakes work. Like, for example, when the original is so old and dated and obscure that a remake could only be an improvement. But stuff like Rocky is ~classic~ for a freakin' reason.

I actually suspect Puck would be willing. He has a tendency to do off-the-beaten-track stuff, seemingly just to get a rise out of people who think he wouldn't do it...

And YES on the lyrics changes. Some of them didn't bother me, but most of them were like... "okay - either do it or don't, but don't umm and err over it while simultaneously ~not umming and erring over other stuff in the same bloody song. DECISIONS, MAKE THEM."

But hilarious. :)

Actually, the older I get, the more I see it. He is verah sexeh in The King and I. :)

Exactly. It would be like remaking The Wizard of Oz with, I dunno, Lindsay Lohan or something. Or Gone with the Wind starring Renee Zelweger and Shia LeBoeuf. Nobody would ever consider these things because it would be sacrilege, but apparently Rocky is fair game? Bollocks. Aside from the fact it's an American remake and the original was British, so it will probably take itself too seriously...

Hee, that's true. This needs a manip LIEK NAOW.

Yeah. It's like they decided to do it and THEN read the script. :P

...I would totally watch Gone With The Wind with Renee Zelweger. She couldn't possibly make it any more unbearable than Margaret Mitchell did...

/blasphemy

Though ick on American remakes of British stuff in general. They do it all the time with television, and even when it's stuff I don't even WATCH, I just do not, literally cannot physically comprehend why. If you think the show works, AIR THE SHOW. If you want something American, MAKE SOMETHING AMERICAN. Like, do they really think that stamping a "formerly made in Britain" logo on it makes it more marketable? Or that stealing a title/premise counts as 'original concepts'. RAGE AND RAGGGGGE.

LOL, manips are your department! Plus, you no doubt have more Rocky images than me!!! So go forth and manip!! Or, well, if nothing else, switch one of your meme pairings to Noah Puckerman / Tim Curry?

Renee Zelweger seriously needs to be shot into the sun. I'm not even joking.

Heh, the American version of Wife Swap is hilarious. The opening credits are covered in FLAMES and have DRAMATIC MUSIC. Also Supernanny US is brilliant: she arrives at the families' homes in a Hackney cab just to prove she's English. :D

Actually Naomi was the manip queen, not I, alas. :) But considering she managed to turn Lorne from Angel into Mama Morton from Chicago (as played by Queen Latifah, no less), I don't think Frank N Puck would be particularly difficult. :P

LOL, I'm not even gonna ask how you have access to American Wife Swap... but the concept of DRAMATIC MUSIC AND FLAMES is just flat out killing me dead right about now.

Also LOL Supernanny. Is her flying umbrella in the shop, then?

*FALLS. THE. HELL. OVER.* Lorne. As in, the green demon with the red eyes and horns? AS IN FREAKING LORNE!??! Please tell me you / she / someone still has that one lying around...

It's on one of the cable channels at the weekends - I forget which. Might be More 4 actually. :)

Voila! I have no idea why this came about, but it no longer matters. It exists, and that's all there is to it.

It also shows Come Dine With Me marathons, which is usually what I'm looking for when I find Supernanny etc.

LOL. I have an "lj_backup" folder on Photobucket because in re-tagging my LJ I discovered millions of broken photo links, and thus had to re-upload them somewhere. Obviously I must have posted Mama Lorne at some point. :)

Suddenly, it all makes sense! Come Dine With Me is definitely epic enough to totally warrant its own channel all to itself!!!

That said, it makes me sad that you must have posted Mama Lorne and I must have missed it. Or else, quite possibly, it was before I knew the first thing about the Angelverse and thus did not know who Lorne was in the first place, in which case, I would have bypassed such glory without even knowing what it was I was missing out on...

I can't remember when I posted him/her/it, or when the conversation was that inspired it... But I've got as far as mid-2004 so I'm guessing it was before you knew about Angel...

I dunno, I didn't love it. I don't know why. Maybe I'm a snob, hahaha. I didn't hate it as much as I thought I would, there were some good parts.
The lyric changes were unsettling enough for me to make it a lot more MEH.

I think it might be a culture thing. Over here we get a lot of stage shows, over there you have screenings of the film. I don't know if that made a difference, as I'm used to 'hearing' different versions of it...

Being a snob is no bad thing; I still have not recovered from the Phantom movie and wish I could eject all the annoying fangirls from the fandom. :P

The lyrics changes were annoying, though, yeah.

We can only hope there is some cataclysmic event before 2012. Like the studio getting blown up. ;)
