Right. Here we go again:

Sunday 23rd June 2002
Before I go on. I forgot to mention. James Marsters is so cuddly you wouldn't believe. I wanted to take him home and tie him to a wall to give me hugs in bad times… For those who hadn't already figured it out, he isn't really British (nooo…) And Sid was really showing off his LAMDA training in the play, seriously…

0730: We got up and went down to breakfast. Another long day ahead of me, and only until 2.00pm, when I would have to leave for my coach back, because I had packing to do on my return home.

0845: Shilpa and I went to find my Paul Goddard photo. It hadn't arrived yet, so I paid £2.00 to get it delivered. We wandered into the dealer hall so I could get my mum a present (a black dragon wall sconce with a purple gem), and watched some more of the talks.

1030ish: The Alexander Siddig and Andrew Robinson photoshoots, which failed to occur on Saturday. I wheedled my way into them, luckily… While I was waiting in the queue, Andy (see, by now we were so used to them that we were on first name terms…) came through to do his photos, looking very hungover (that'll be the Irish in him…). He didn't stay long as there weren't that many people there. Sid still hadn't arrived, so Paul (Goddard) came through to do his, looking much more confident and wandering past us with a lollipop in his mouth ;) Then, typically, word got through that Sid had now arrived, so he had to hover with us (hey, like I'm complaining! I was fourth in the queue!) until Paul finished his shoots. Sid was wearing torn jeans. I nearly died… Apparently, he'd gone to the chipshop the night before for some chips… obviously, he misses fine British cuisine ;)

So, I did his photo, too, now much more relaxed. Compared to James, he's very skinny, and much taller, but hey, I'm not complaining…

Now it's all a complete blur and I don't remember many of the times. We discovered that if you said you'd lost your ticket, you could still get in for the signings… so we lied, and got up there again, mainly because I wanted something very specific. I got Paul Goddard's autograph again, and he remembered Shilpa. I'm ashamed to admit that we both then collapsed in absolutely helpless giggles in front of him and had to apologise - "It's been a long weekend…" - and I was the first person to ask for "Look, no hands!" on an autograph. Lots of people asked for "My side, your side", which I informed him would be the bane of his life forever, and also, apparently, for "Work. Now. Freak. Later" (which isn't technically a Stark quote…)

QOTW #4: "My side, your side, my side, your side, MY SIDE, YOUR SIDE!" (Of course…)

Anyway, there was a pile of the photoshoot pictures (the missing ones - they'd promised a reshoot if they didn't turn up) and what should be on the top of the pile but mine!! So I got THAT personalised, too, and the conversation was:

ME: Can I, um, have my photo, please?
PAUL: Oh, sure.
PAUL'S FRIEND: He's been trying to sign that for the past hour.
PAUL: You want "Look no hands" on this?
ME: No, "My side your side", please.

Hee! Oh, it was all wonderful. I'm so glad he lightened up. It turns out he's a completely wonderful bloke, very down to earth and a joy to meet… and he has hair. It's incredibly disturbing. And now I've met him and talked to him, I can see what an incredibly talented actor he is, because I would never believe he played Stark if I didn't already know it.

*Trivia: He likes doing scenes with Rygel because they're more or less the same 'rank' of character on the show - that is, nobody likes them much. Aw…*

Then it was Sid again. He remembered me from that morning (well, he said "Hello again", which would imply as such) and we finally managed to ask about the cucumber incident… Luckily there was no queue behind us, so we had pretty much all his attention for about 30 seconds. The cucumber story, in brief, is this:

Apparently, during filming once when he had to wear a lycra suit (I'm assuming just his usual costume), one of the production team thought it would be hilarious if they shoved a cucumber… down there… So he did. It was incredibly obvious what he'd done, but somehow he managed to go an entire day of shooting without anybody noticing…
So we thanked him profusely for telling us, and I was actually coherent. Go me!

1300 or thereabouts: We hovered waiting for James' second talk, which I wouldn't have time to watch anyway, but I had nothing better to do, because Shilpa was going to ask him to do our favourite quote (having just missed the opportunity the day before) The quote in question being:

QOTW #5: "Out. For. A. Walk… Bitch" (In reply to Buffy's "Tell me in five words what you're doing out here.")

Then 'Joey Pants' came out again and we listened to him because we had nothing better to do while we were waiting for James Marsters.

1345: They called for tickets 1-500 for signings. I attempted to get in (being number 520) and said I was leaving in half an hour, would they please let me in. Unfortunately, he probably wasn't even going to start signing for another 30 minutes, so I wouldn't have made it… this was incredibly irritating since I wanted to get my "Vampire" tee shirt signed. Ah, well…

Therefore, TNGTP #4: I didn't get anything personally signed by James Marsters (the photo is signed, but not personalised.)

1400: I left to get a taxi, leaving Shilpa, Heidi and Sarah to drool over James (again, for the latter two).

TNGTP #5: The stupid taxi driver took me to the train station instead of the coach station, then still charged me £9.00 for the whole thing, not having the common decency to admit it was his fault and only charge me for the first part of the journey. I was too tired to argue with him.

So. Even though I didn't, in fact, get to technically meet James Marsters, I will console myself with the fact that I got hugged by him twice (hee! I still can't get over that) and that I met Paul Goddard and Alex Siddig three times each (and I'm still waiting for my photo with the latter to be delivered) and found them to be genuinely pleasant people. And that we found out the cucumber story. :D

So that's it. Now I suppose I should tell you about my holiday, but this has taken me about 3 hours, and I'm tired, so you'll just have to wait. I'll do it tomorrow. And I'll get the photos scanned when I have the other one, along with my programme and the magazine-y thing with the autographs in it.

Phew! Roll on next June and SFX Event 2003!! Here's hoping for more "Farscape" people (ideally Ben and/or Claudia, but any one of them would be wonderful) and some "Voyager" people (Kate Mulgrew or Rob Picardo ideally… or possibly Jeri Ryan) and some other DS9 people and Doyle from "Angel". Just because. And I'm not hyper. No…

Oh yes. I almost forgot. Anthony Stewart Head made a guest appearance, but I missed that completely as I was on the coach (asleep, most likely) by then. Damn. Other than this, it was fantastic and a lot of fun, and I'm very glad I booked for next year already.

We've decided to try and make an entire Scapecast for next year (it turns out Richard and Judy were filming the event that Friday morning and had we been in costume we could have been on telly. Ah well) and reckon that between us we can easily create a convincing D'Argo mask. It costs £75.00 for the whole weekend, and details should be on the website soon (if not now, I haven't checked yet) although, obviously, no guests are confirmed yet. It's definitely worth the money and if we can pull this off, it would be really, really cool :)

mr steward head did not appear much to the consternation of the SFX people. however james marsters extended his talk by about 10 minutes so that it wasn't as noticed, already being late (no never) and the quote was said.
