teylaminh: (Spuffy - with or without)

A shame, really, that said ending wasn't for any actual episode of anything.  Specifically Buffy.  Not that "Chosen" wasn't Spuffy enough.  Or, well, it wasn't, really, but considering everything that had happened up to that point, and the previous year, we couldn't have asked for much more, and with the inclusion of Angel, Joss put himself into a really bad, on-the-brink-of-fan-warfare place.  I digress.

A dream.  Indeed.  I didn't set my alarm when I went to bed because I was tired enough that I thought "waking up when my body wants to wake up is a very good idea".  So I woke up, in fact, at 11.00, earlier than even I anticipated, and, being pleasantly surprised, went back to sleep again for a bit.  I woke up again about 30 minutes later, and was very glad I'd slept because of the completely wonderful Spuffiness of the dream I had.

It was a very vivid dream in general, at the time, but now I don't remember most of it except for the Spuffy ending, which was completely unrelated to the rest of it.

I recall that the entire thing was in a great big house, that slightly resembled the one from Jonathan Creek in "House of Monkeys", only bigger and with more rooms, some of which I remember the details of.  It seemed at one point that the house had recently been bought by a rich person, and there were DVD players and big plasma televisions in all the bedrooms, except for one, which had a crappy 14" television and an old video player because the person in there had one thing on video that they wanted to watch because it had sentimental value.  One, I'm sure, had pale-ish wallpaper and a dark green radiator (the old fashioned chunky type), they all had huge beds, and one room was all done in blues, reds and purples and the bed had about twelve different blankets and sheets and coverlets, like big old beds in old halls.  The room with that bed was at the very end of the landing, and at the other end of it there were three steps leading up at a 90o angle to another, square section of landing which presumably then curved around again to lead somewhere else, but right on that square was another doorway that led to another room.  The landing was bare-boarded and mahogany.  I didn't see any further than that.

Phew. Welcome to the corridors of my mind...

Anyway, at one point, Julie Andrews was there.  People were arguing.**  There was something to do with paintings (not originals, but copies of classics by another artist*) and there was a bit where I/the person who had been part of one of the arguments stormed upstairs into the room with the green radiator, which was very cold because said radiator wasn't turned on.  Then there was some kind of trial, or something, and there was a stage in a theatre that seemed to be part of the house.  The paintings were all brought out one by one.  There was also this really strange bit where one my fanfics (which was probably for Buffy) was being taken off fanfic.net because someone was going to publish it as a story in its own right, and this was apparently revenge for the argument I'd gotten into (with Julie Andrews, in fact.) I remember saying "No, this isn't what I wanted!" because all the reviews the fic had gotten were slowly disappearing, and I didn't want the story being published because it wasn't even my original work.

And then... then everything seemed to calm down and everyone forgave each other.  And then it turned into Buffy, and I was on the outside the whole time until the end, just looking in, at one point actually watching it like on a television (more on that later) and it started with Xander and Giles talking on the aforementioned square bit of landing.  Everyone was obviously living in the house.  It seemed some of the arguers were also Buffy and Spike (no change there, really) and some time ago Spike had gone to try and make it up and the last anyone had seen them, he'd been heading off to talk to her in the room they shared (which was the dark blue/purple/red one...)  So Xander and Giles were in discussion, and the conversation went something like:

Xander: So where did Spike go, anyway?
Giles: He went to talk with Buffy.  I believe he's still with her now.
X: (makes to rush off in the direction of their room, all heroic, and is restrained by Giles) He'll kill her! (Heh, my subconcious clearly enjoys Ignorant!Xander...)
G: No, he won't, Xander.  (Then there's a load of spiel I don't remember and the 'camera' panned away from Giles and Xander and down the landing towards the door, which it then faded to.)  You're just going to have to accept it.  She loves him.

Or possibly it was "He loves her", but either works.  Be warned that however I try to write this section, it isn't going to work in the slightest as the residual images fade (against my will) so you'll have to apply some imagination.

As he said whoever loved whoever, the camera faded through the door to Buffy and Spike, and wow, seriously, this was like "Touched" to the power of fifty.  Even though nothing was actually visually established about whatever had gone before, this was one of those dreams that was made purely of random images and emotions, so I got a general feeling about what had transpired, which was that they'd talked, forgiven each other for whatever the argument was about, and Spike was being all noble and offering to sleep on the floor, and, a la "Touched", Buffy wanted him to stay with her.  And he'd... slept in the chair instead, only when she was asleep he'd joined her, and at the point the dream got there, he was behind her (like in "Chosen" after the Angel argument/amulet conversation) and they were under this huge mass of duvet with an intricate pattern on it that matched the decor of the room, and Spike was asleep, but Buffy wasn't.  So she turned over to face him, watched him a moment, snuggled closer, and placed a kiss on his cheek.  So then it turned out he wasn't asleep at all, of course, so he kissed her back, and then - get your minds out of the gutters! - they both drifted off to sleep.  Finally.

But it didn't end there, no, no, no.  That was like the final 'scene', and in my mind it was the final episode, too, so then I was watching the credits, which had little 'snapshots' hinting of the future alongside them.  And admittedly, it was a bit weird, but still Spuffy.  (I won't mention Spike's anti-sunlight jacket, because it's making me laugh now and detracting from the fluff, and I think the explaining is in the description...)  The final snapshot (which was silent because of the credit music) was Buffy/Spike, and... okay, he proposed.  Is the short version.  Down on one knee and everything.  But he didn't technically ask, just went through the motions and then lost the power of speech entirely and gave her this hopeful expression instead.  She said (silently), "Of course I will" and he gave her that look from "Chosen" right after he'd said "I don't know what I would've done if you'd gone up those stairs."  That look.  The no-holds-barred, 'this is who I am and how I feel and there's nothing you can do about it' look (and if you don't mind, I'm just going to sit here and dissolve for a moment...) And then she just held him.

And that was it.  Well, almost.  Then I was trying to put a note under the door of the Halls office that said "OMG best ending ever!!!" or something to that effect, only I couldn't, because there wasn't enough credit on my phone (?!) so I was trying to get more credit, which, for some reason, involved gettting someone's new number, and then the someone wanted me to send him a photo on his phone because nobody had yet, and I was like "My phone doesn't take pictures," and we were outside, and there was a white fence and some houses and it was sunny, and then I woke up anyway.

So, yeah, the ending makes no sense...

*This is because in one of the scripts someone's doing for Writing for TV, the main character's husband does copies of classic paintings.
**I reckon this is because last night I did some fic in my semi-asleep state, where Dawn picks a fight with Kennedy over her and Willow.  Which is really quite irritating, since I had Dawn pick a fight with Andrew - though it was considerably less justified - over Jonathan and Warren and the fact that he wants to remember them with all the people the Scoobies lost.  Obviously, Dawn's just being my catalyst for getting things out in the open...  I may rewrite that conversation later, though I was quite proud of the line, after Kennedy asks if Dawn is threatening her, "Oh, please. I threatened a third of the Scourge of Europe once.  You don't scare me."  (Re: "You hurt my sister in any way, touch her... and you'll wake up on fire.")

Spuffy, Spuffy, Spuffy!  Wow, I woke up feeling all warm and fuzzy and shippy, and sorta peaceful. My subconscious loves me.  The best part is, the dream even allowed me to rewind (literally) the final Spuffy moment in the 'credits' so I could watch it again, which, as far as I can remember, I've never been able to do before.

Also, somehow, I don't know when, I have to turn it into a fic.  Purely because the imagery was so rich and it was so completely uber-fluffy.  In fact, I was toying with an idea for the sequel to "Broken Record", which I outlined to an extent here.  See, in the final few chapters, Buffy goes to see Spike in LA - once she's grilled Giles on his whereabouts - and takes Jack with her; they spend three chapters having a heartfelt conversation (oh, it's going to be so fun to write) before Faith comes to pick Buffy and Jack up; Spike tells her he's not going back with her, eventually makes her understand, and she goes back to Cleveland.  It ends there.  In the sequel, set about ten years later, Jack's sixteen and the time for fulfilling the prophesy is upon everyone. Buffy - now powerless because of said prophesy - is doing her best to prepare him, as is everyone else - and he does have four fully trained Slayers at his disposal, too (others being in training or off around the world doing their duty) but he's also a teenager and proclaiming the unfairness of it all.

I'm not entirely sure at this point if Spike's going to keep contact.  I was going to have Buffy not wanting to ask because of his decision to keep away - because he doesn't want to mess up again, is the point behind that, incidentally - but him doing it anyway, but only to Jack and not her because it'd be too much too soon, or something.  But I was going to have him come back at the crucial moment to help them in their final battle-to-end-all-battles (which I'm consideirng making the final battle ever, possibly) because Buffy needs the support and because he's realised they both need each other too much for him to stay away.  And I was toying with the notion that, after they've won, in the confused and disbelieving aftermath, when everyone's bloodied and stunned, Buffy could just go "So, wanna get married?" because it'd be sort of amusing and fitting at the same time.  And now I'm wondering if maybe the house from my dream could just be the house that is the Slayer Training Centre, a few years later. Only without Ignorant!Xander, obviously...

Hm.  Definitely worth a ponder.  It's a long way off yet.

Wow, but that was a long entry.  I just made Eni a certified fangirl in the subject area of Stage Door Lurkage (literally).  I don't know if that's a wise plan considering she's seeing Aly Hannigan tonight... :)

Aww. Cute dream! I think your fic idea sounds quite interesting too.

I thought so. I love Spuffy dreams. :)

The fic's planned to be 20 chapters, but only because of the song-for-each-chapter issue, otherwise it'd be more because the chapters are ridiculously long. And currently boring because all the good stuff doesn't happen 'til chapter 4 (when I break up Willow and Kennedy :D) and I'm only on 3. And there's no Spuffy at all til chpater 17. Gah.

Woo hoo to Willow/Kennedy breakage!

Honestly, I do think that the whole Kennedy idea was one of the worst the show has ever had. But I think there are quite a few sloppy bits in season 7 anyway. Was musing on "Him" today, which is quite a funny episode, but it really shows a lack of originality when compared to some of the wonderful stand alone eps earlier seasons did. But anyway, that was random, so...

Oh, emphatically woohoo. And they break up over something utterly pointless, too. I think it's something like Kennedy calling her 'Red' and Willow telling her not to because that's what Spike used to call her and it's bad enough Buffy being reminded with everything else, and Kennedy goes off on one. Possibly. That was going to be part of it. There was also this whole section with Willow teaching Vi how to do magic and spending more time with her than with Kennedy and her getting jealous...

Definitely a bad idea. I know what you mean about "Him", and I think every season has had its bad ones. "Double Meat Palace", for example... (Incidentally, my favourite bit in "Him" is Buffy with the bazooka, determined to take out Wood, and Spike tackling her; it's hysterical...) At least the sloppy bits in Season 7 were made up for by some of the truly great bits...

That is very funny, that part.

I did like Season 7, but I do think it felt like a less cohesive season, which is interesting, given it's the one which has the fewest stand alones and is so overarching plotcentric.

The final few episodes, I think, were probably the best, but some of it did seem a little random. I never liked that we didn't see any outcome of "Beneath You"; it just sort of ended and then Spike was back in the basement, and... I mean, it was nice that it ended right there, but it would've been good to see what happened afterwards, or even have Buffy mention it or something. As an example.

Argh. At some point I'll actually remember to write-up my thoughts on the first five eps of Angel S5 that I finally got around to watching... Maybe later.

Yes, that would be interesting. Think I've seen the first 12 (?). Good stuff so far! I posted some thoughts here: http://www.livejournal.com/community/buffyfans_uk/66938.html#cutid1 But they might spoil you...
