("Upcoming" might be wishful thinking.)

So, I am currently on phased return after my eight weeks of sick leave and don't have much to do yet (because I'm too efficient) so I might as well try and update my DW a bit more often.

That being said, I'm currently in the process of percolating a GoT AU story which I'm quite excited about, but it's going to need a lot of forward planning rather than my usual gung-ho approach of throwing words at it until a plot emerges.

The AU in question will effectively be a re-telling of The Last of Us with some good old fashioned character substitutions. This idea has been rattling around my brain for some time, but Paul recently finished TLOU1 for the first time and it just furthered my desire to write the crossover. I went to find a game transcript (of the cinematics and the ambient conversation) and that was that.

Details Under Here - plus potential game spoilers )

That's all I have so far. This will definitely need to wait until I've finished my two ongoing WIPs ("The Things We Do" and "After"), but if inspiration strikes I might start throwing some more words and ideas into it. The first task is to get some chapter outlines / titles set up in a document so I know where it's going.

At some point, I also still want to write an Assassins Creed AU (again including Arya because it would be hilarious), which initially I was going to set in Crusades-era a la the first game, but then Valhalla got released so it'll be set in that era instead. There won't be any kind of crossover with Eivor et al, just the same aesthetic.

The one good thing about getting stuff out of my brain and onto the page is it creates space for other stories to simmer...

As promised, here are a few thoughts on the above documentary now that I've watched it. (Paul and I had to watch it in two halves as we were both too knackered to finish it in one go. It's been a draining few weeks TBH.)

Cut for spoilers )

I think that was everything...

Brief real life news: our credit/reference checks have cleared so hopefully we will be moving in around a month to a house on the Oldbury/Quinton border (still under Sandwell but the posh bit of Oldbury – we’re going up in the world!), which is more than our current rent, and also smaller, but a lot closer to Bearwood. This time I am actually going to try and throw stuff out before we move rather than after. :P

Further updates as and when they occur, obviously.
teylaminh: (Farscape - John&Aeryn - happiness)
... before I have to do a Real Life post probably tomorrow.

So, on Monday night it was the last ever episode of Game of Thrones, so here is my now-traditional recap. Despite booking yesterday off work with the intention of doing this entry, I actually ended up pouring my feels into trying to finish my latest fic instead, hence the delay.

Actually, before I talk about the episode, here's a quick round-up of my GoT fics in case [personal profile] cloudsinvenice (or anyone else) wants to read them in context of the season as a whole... These are the links on AO3 but they're also on FFN and are the first three stories on my profile, here.

These form part of a series on AO3 which I have aptly entitled "Season 8 Braime Ship Spiral" and from that you should obviously assume they are Jaime/Brienne centric. The great thing about shipping is that massive fandoms with gigantic casts do not have to be impenetrable when you're only focusing on 2-3 characters at a time.

Wish Fulfilment - set after episode 8.02, “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms”. Jaime and Brienne and their greatest wishes, and Tormund as canon shipper rather than creepozoid.

we have survived all, we who knew we would not - a direct follow up to the above story, set after episode 8.03, "The Long Night". (Pretentious title is pretentious.) Standard hurt/comfort and fluff because my heart needed it after that episode. The AO3 version is split into chapters but I intended it as a long one-shot, which is how the version on FFN is formatted.

The Things We Do - a separate story / fix-it / alternative ending to episode 8.04, "The Last of the Starks", incorporating events of 8.05, "The Bells". Currently a WIP because I decided to give it two separate endings, only one of which I have so far finished. (Obvs.) In which Jaime is an Impulsive Idiot and Brienne is Not Having It. (Angst/fluff, mostly.)

I’ve been somewhat overwhelmed by the response to the latest story in particular: people really seem to like my interpretation of Brienne, and that’ll do me just fine. :)

Right, now that my watch self-plugging is over, onwards to the recap. This won’t be quite as ranty as my previous ones because I’ve had a bit more time to process it, and now the show has finished I’m not quite so full of theories/predictions/pre-episode tension. :P

Episode 8.06 - The Iron Throne )

I think that about sums it up.

If Paul and I do a full re-watch of the entire show at some point, I may well do more of these posts in the future (even if it’s just yet more words of ship!flail). For now, I imagine my blog will become a wasteland of work-related moaning again, although I have an actual Real Life post to do very shortly.

Over and out.
teylaminh: (Trapdoor - Moany Boni)
You'll be pleased to know there's only one more episode to go. As much as I'm sad the show is ending, I'll be SO GLAD when it's over and done with and I can resume my normal non-fandom-consumed life until I get around to reading the books. Honestly, this season has been a rollercoaster that I was totally unprepared for. (But it’s still distracting me from work stress, which is probably for the best considering we’ve just another stupid email about another stupid thing which is pissing everyone off.)

Episode 8.05 - The Bells )

I wish I’d never started watching this bloody show.
teylaminh: (Random - ficcing)
This should (hopefully) be a bit of a shorter entry but it's still GoT-related and spoilery, sorry. I read something this morning and it's wound me up and now I need to vent it. :P

A Little Rant )

I feel like I'm screaming into a void right now but I'm still having fun. :P
teylaminh: (Cabaret - Maybe This Time)
More Game of Thrones brain-splurging, sorry. It's been a very long time since I was this consumed by a fandom, and I'm pretty sure it wasn't when I was working full-time in a job where I actually had to function vaguely like a human being. At this point I have zero sleep behind me and absolutely zero chill.

Actually, Paul and I had a very entertainment-filled weekend, with a last-minute viewing of Captain Marvel on Saturday and then Avengers: Endgame on Sunday, right in time for the "official" spoiler ban being lifted. If I was not quite so completely stuck in GoT-mode I might actually have things to say about Endgame, though I really don't consider myself a full-on Marvel fan and I've only seen most of the films once (with the exception of Iron Man which I think I've seen twice), and some of the more recent ones not at all, so some elements of canon passed me by. That did not detract from my enjoyment of the film whatsoever, it should be said, and I'm honestly loving the fact that both of these franchises (Marvel, Avengers specifically, and GoT) are ending after 10 years. It feels like a big pop culture event; and if GoT can pull a finale out of the bag which is anywhere near as good as its third episode of this season, I'll be happy. As we all know, there is nothing worse than a good show being ruined by a bad ending (I'm looking at YOU, Voyager.)

Anyway, after that, as it was a bank holiday, I decided to record GoT at 2.00am (the US synchronised showing) and watch it earlier in the day in the hopes that I would have more time to process it. HAHAHAHA nope. Instead, what actually happened was I spent the next seven hours scrolling Tumblr and reading fanfic and plunged myself headlong into an irrevocable pain spiral, and started writing another fic because WHY NOT. I'm enjoying the sudden word-storm, believe me (16,000 words in two weeks, whaaaat??), but it's taken me completely by surprise. And I'm not as proficient as I used to be at this writing lark, so all these people bashing out perfectly-formed stories in a matter of HOURS are leaving me in awe.

As it stands, there are two episodes to go and I've booked the Tuesday off after the finale, because I am not going to be able to function otherwise. Last week's episode utterly broke me and this week's... well, it'll be below the cut.

Here Be Spoilers )

I think that was everything I wanted to say. I'm still dreading what's going to happen in the next two weeks, and I've booked the day off work after the finale because I know full well I will be an absolute MESS regardless of what happens. Not sure a day will be long enough to recover, TBQH, but it's better than nothing.

Tune in, same time next week, for more incoherent flail!
teylaminh: (Ed Wood - Lugosi hand)
I apologise in advance that my blog is going to be like this for at least the next three weeks. This fandom is consuming my every waking moment. At least it's not work moaning. :P

I started my second fic last night to add to the ever-increasing droves of post-8.03 stories and am hoping to get some proper words down on it tonight and tomorrow with a view to posting hopefully late on Saturday / early on Sunday. (Notwithstanding that Paul and I are trying to cram in a trip to Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame this weekend before the latter gets spoilered to shit.) As it's a bank holiday, I've reset the Sky+ series link for the 2.00am showing of GoT so we can watch it earlier in the day and have more hours to process it before bedtime. (I'm seriously considering booking the Tuesday off after the final episode.)

It's heartening to know that literally everyone else I've spoken to about the episode had a similar reaction to me, which at least indicates I wasn't just being Totes Emosh about the whole thing. Three days later my colleagues and I are still flailing and yelling and passing theories back and forth. I love it. :D

Such being said, there are only three episodes remaining and I have a whole mess of theories running rampant in my brain which I really need to try and articulate. (I'm hoping my Ed Wood icon will somehow influence the powers that be.)

Game of Thones finale theories - still spoilery )

As terrifying as this fandom / ship spiral is, at least it's distracting me from work. The Email from the other week is still a bone of contention (some colleagues have responded, others have not) and our TL is promising a team meeting at some point as well as long-over due supervisions, so I imagine there's going to be a lot of annoying things in my immediate future. But quite frankly, at this point, the fate of my favourite fictional characters feels like a far more vital thing to worry about. :P

So, at the very least, for the next few weeks my journal will be mercifully free of work moaning and - perhaps not so mercifully - full of GoT-related screaming instead.
teylaminh: (MR - storm tree)
Right, I promised to start using my journal for something other than work rage, and I have a lot of Thoughts and Feelings about last night's Game of Thrones which I desperately need to get out of my brain.

Obviously, there are going to be spoilers not just for episode 8-03 but previous episodes also. And capslock. A lot of capslock.

Enter at your own risk. )

Okay, I think that's about everything I was going to say. Anything else I could add about Braime would be incoherent flail at this point.

Three more episodes to go. BRING IT ON.
